January and February are renowned for being notoriously quiet. With very little orders we have decided to close at 4pm instead of 5pm through this quiet time. If you need to visit the shop between 4pm and 5pm Mon to Fri then please do contact us where we will be more than happy to stop on for you.

Its been so busy lately that we have forgotten to update our hours. We are back to full time hours now. That being Mon to Fri 9am to 5pm we do not open on the weekends as we spend the weekends enjoying life with our families & friends.

In this new day and age and with the cost of electricity going through the roof we all have to watch the pennies. Given that we have decided that going into winter (as it is quieter) we will be closing at 4pm. So just to clarify new hours will be Mon to Fri 9am till 4pm. This is NOT set in stone, if we have orders to fulfil or if you cant visit us before 4pm just let us know and we will happily stay to 5pm. Its a bit of a flexible thing we are trialling for now. Well hello everyone. :D Its been a while since my last blog. What a transformation in work we have had. Gone from working 9 till 3pm with a lot of time spare in the day, to working 6am to 6pm simply to get through the volume of work that's come in. I use the time before 9am and after 5pm to really get stuck in as its out of hours so no interruptions. You are now welcome to pop along to the shop Mon to Fri between 9am & 5pm as we are now back to full time hours. As a bit of fun today I had this email, which I thought must be an April fool. I mean of all days to work late no one wants it to be a Friday do they. Work is still pretty quiet and I am still only working 9 till 3pm Monday to Friday. There are days when I stop on longer "work depending". Its probably best to call first if your thinking of popping into the shop just to make sure I am here and that you don't have a wasted journey.
New Trophy Catalogues

Well its been a strange couple of years hasn't it? The trophy industry has like a lot of other businesses really struggled. No new catalogues were produced for 2021 for obvious reasons. Heading into February we are now starting to have a couple of companies launch their new catalogues for 2022. Just rewards and Trendsetting awards are leading the way. Trophies for titles are yet to bring theirs out and Swatkins are not releasing one at all this year. Swatkins are simply increasing all the prices from their 2020 brochure by 20%. As yet we are still not seeing an increase in the trophy business. Therefore we will continue to monitor the situation and increase hours on an as and when needed basis. So for now its still Mon to Fri 9am to 3pm. If you need to see us outside of these hours just get in touch and we will arrange something. Following covid and the get back to work we were hoping that the normal trophy business would soon return. Although work is returning it is very very slow, with little or no Trophy orders some weeks. Therefore we have decided to keep our reduced hours of Mon to Fri 9 till 3pm for a little bit longer. Luckily as we are engravers of most things, this is occupying us through this quiet time with local companies requiring engraving work. Following the announcement from the Welsh government, we have been given April 12th as the date that non essential businesses can reopen. We look forward to seeing all of our regular and new customers very soon. Obviously there will be covid rules to abide to but i think we are all used to wearing masks, disinfecting hands and keep our distance by now. We also have a customer screen and the shop is disinfected regularly to keep you as safe as possible.

Well the heading should be a really positive title. New year new start but i have to ask is it? Ive started back today after the Christmas holidays but Wales has been in lockdown since 20th December. A review is to be announced on Friday but its not looking good for opening any time soon. Im open for online orders which is the main of my business since covid began . Well 2020 has certainly been an unusual year to say the least. Eight months in and im asking myself what is the way forward for small businesses like myself? With very few people coming in the shop for trophies, I am relieved that I offer other services too. With my engraving services at least I can still make Welsh Slate House Signs, Memorial Plaques, Medal Hangers, Engrave photos onto slate plaques, Custom engraved gin wine and beer glasses. Bespoke medals etc. At least all of these can be sold online, looks like this is the way forward for the time being. Things are very very slowly starting to get back to normal (Whatever normal is) . We have decided to stay on part time hours until work picks up some more, but will look at increasing those hours on Monday 10th August. Our new hours will be Mon to Fri 9.30am to 3pm. Due to covid 19 I'm afraid we have had to close our shop and engraving studio temporarily until further notice. This decision was out of our hands as it was enforced by the government. As sad as we are to have to stop the job we love so much the safety of workers and customers is paramount. We have to stay at home to contain the virus. If you have an order that you need to collect urgently please e mail us and we will do the best we can to accommodate you by meeting at a set time abiding by the 2 metre rule. Every month at Severn Trophies we hold a competition on Facebook where all the entries like and share the page, and leave a comment. All entrants are put into a hat or in my case a trophy cup :) and the winner is pulled out at random and a video of the draw is then shown as a facebook post. Davies is New Champion. Craig the Nugget Davies has become the 2017 Newtown Premier League champion after defeating a spirited Kacey Jones in the final. Davies defeated Garry Jones in a tight semi final by 3 legs to 2. Jones had defeated Chris Hurds and Gareth Ashley to reach his first NPL Final. Davies had been one of the most consistant players in the league this year and thoroughly deserved the win. He was crowned the ninth premier league champion on a night where a magnificent £750 was raised for Macmillan cancer Research. Christmas Eve Boxes

With Christmas fast approaching thoughts are turning to Christmas Gifts. In the last couple of years these Christmas Eve boxes have become very popular. The idea is that on christmas eve children are allowed to open this box which generally contains a pair of pyjamas a small book and a treat of some description. (contents not included) My boxes which are larger than most at 10" x 8" and are 4" deep. Loving my second laser engraver. Thought the first was good but the possibilities with this new one are absolutely endless. You can tell how sad i am when i spend every waking moment thinking what i can laser next , wood, marble, acrylic, torches,hip flasks, leather, glass, you name it. With just over a week to go until Bettws Banger Racing drivers will be eagerly getting their cars prepped ready for the big day blood sweat and tears and maybe a few swear words along the way. Its a fantastic day out for all the family if you have never been you really should go, i promise you wont be disappointed. The commentary is hilarious and its just such a good all round experience with a great atmosphere. There are lots of stalls and eateries there too . Something for everyone. I have owned and ran Severn Trophies on my own for the last 23 years. The pressure is starting to get to me (think its my age) especially in the busy season. So i have decided to bring in my other half to help. Gary and i have been together for 13 years and he has always been there to call on when my computers need fixing or engravers need setting up & servicing etc. He is now going to be working front of house serving customers answering the phone and also helping to put orders together in the back. Unusual job yesterday. A customer wanted to replicate this ships wheel and have it engraved into a piece of wood to be set into a piece of furniture. This is the drawing he gave us and the finished piece. Under 3" big so a bit of a challenge but we did it.

Boring Coasters To Be Or Not To Be That Is The Question!!!

I bought some coasters the other day for our new house . They matched our coffee table quite well but were plain and boring. I said to my wonderful other half Gary how about i engrave them? He said that would be a good idea can you engrave a Red Kite on them? Being in the heart of Mid Wales where there are now so many Red Kites thanks to the "Gigrin Farm Red Kite centre Rhayader" reintroducing them after they were almost extinct i thought that would be a lovely idea. Well its been a busy season so thank you to all our customers old and new, but as always we will having a well earned break for one week once the schools go back. These are the medals that i did for the Carp Team Wales "Celtic Carp Competition" in July. I have been busy engraving sponsorship trophies for Bettws Bangor Racing this week. I am proud to say this is my 4th year of sponsoring it. A very popular event which is getting bigger each year. Very well organised and such a laugh. All proceeds are split between Air Ambulance,Cancer Research,Hope House and other local causes...Last year they raised over £15,000 can they beat it this year? Hi Folks its all go with the summer shows at the moment. Busy time for us at Severn Trophies. Here is one of the trophies we did for a local show. Engraved photograph and text onto a nice piece of 19mm thick glass and finished in a satin lined presentation box. If your interested in having a photo done ask Annette . Not all photographs will work (depending on the quality) but if you email her your photo she will try this for you for free and let you know if its good enough Yes thats right nothing to pay for trying.

Today has been a day of unusual things to engrave. First thing this morning i had a hammer to engrave. This was engraved on the wooden handle with "To Daddy on your Birthday Love From Nathan" but i dont have any pics of it sorry. Then came the Electrical switches as shown on the photos. These were engraved and then paint filled and cleaned up giving this finished result. Great for holiday lets etc. I can honestly say i love my work its so varied. Never be afraid to ask if i can engrave something as i just love a challenge :)
